Why it exists

Anyone who has sat in a waiting room trying to remember when a symptom started knows the gap. The information exists. It is in your head, in a text message, on the back of a letter, and none of it is in the room with you when it is needed.

Health apps mostly answer this with dashboards: rings to close, scores to beat, a chart that decides whether your week was good. That works for training. It is the wrong shape entirely for illness, for caring for a parent, or for a condition that will simply be there next year too.

So Biojrnl is a journal. You write what happened. The app keeps the order, keeps it private, and turns it into something readable when someone needs to read it.

Someone was there

My mother tells the same story about my father. There were a few of us, and whenever one of us fell ill, he stayed up the whole night. He was known for it. Nobody remembers the fevers now. Everybody remembers that he stayed.

That is where Biojrnl starts, but it is not where it ends. A parent keeps the record while a child is small: the handover note for the sitter, the doses ticked off, the fever that broke by morning. A grandmother minding a child for the evening is handed the notes, the doses and the times that evening needs, in the free app, with nothing to subscribe to. And the record is not a keepsake. It outlives the night it was written, and it belongs to the person it was kept for.

Because everyone eventually asks the questions a record answers. Did I get that vaccination, or only the first dose? What was I taking the winter my back went? When did the penicillin reaction start, and how bad was it last time? Health is lived in fragments: prescriptions here, clinic letters there, a reaction somewhere in a parent's memory. Biojrnl's whole job is to bring those fragments into one place: medications and their doses, blood results, vaccinations course by course, allergies and how serious they are, appointments and what came out of them. In order, in your own words, and to hand when someone in a clinic asks.

Most people already keep pieces of this record without meaning to. A photo of a rash, taken to show a doctor and never found again. A repeat prescription slip in a coat pocket. The date of a vaccination in a text message from a clinic that no longer sends them. The fragments exist because they matter; they are just not together. Biojrnl gives them one place, so the next question about your health, whoever asks it, has somewhere to look.

What we hold to

• Record, never judge. No scores, no grades, and no streaks to protect. A quiet month is a quiet month.
• Your words, not a feed. No AI and no health integrations. Nothing writes for you, and no watch pours numbers into your journal. A record you wrote yourself is one you can stand behind in an appointment.
• Private by construction. An encrypted store on your own device, with sharing off until you switch it on.
• Your data leaves with you. Export on every plan, including free, and account deletion that actually deletes, on the timetable the privacy policy sets out.
• Complete, not minimum. The app ships when it is finished, not when it is demonstrable.
• Plain language. In the app, in the emails and in the legal pages. If a sentence needs a lawyer to parse, it gets rewritten.

What Biojrnl is not

It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose, and it does not interpret your results. It has no opinion about whether a number is good. Those judgements belong to a qualified clinician who can see you, and the app is built to help you get more out of that conversation rather than to replace it.

The company

Biojrnl is made by Biojrnl Ltd, company number 17290325, registered in England and Wales. It is a small operation, which is the reason the app is subscription funded: there is no advertising business behind it, and nothing to gain from knowing more about you than the app needs.

The name

Biojrnl is a journal about the biological you, with the vowels worn off the way a word does when you write it often. The full stop after it is on purpose. It is a closed sentence, not an announcement.
